About me

I love bringing people together.  And whether that is physically through organizing events like the “Fill the Chair Food Drive” in Gardner, MA so many years ago, or virtually every day in the Mozilla QA and Calendar projects, if I go home after inspiring someone or opening their mind to a new idea of what might be possible in the world, then I go home happy.

To do this on a much bigger and more entertaining scale, I’m also a novelist.  I’ve written four novels, one of which is ready for publication.  All I need is a publisher. 🙂

There will be much more to come about my writing on this site, so I will keep you in suspense.

The title?  It’s a bit of word play that came to my mind when reading the last movement of T.S. Eliot’s The Wasteland  for the twelve thousandth time (you should read it too).  I was thinking about my life and my crazy journeys and all the things I have done, have tried to do, and those things that I plan to do next.  And when you really want to create change, you are faced with the same problem the Colorado river was faced with when it encountered all that rock in what is now northern Arizona.  It just takes persistence toward your dreams.

Water on Rock.

Rock on.

  1. Just found you – seen those pix of the storm and (living in the UK) i have very little idea of what it’s actually like. The storm that came up the English channel in 1987 and felled even 400-year-old trees, that i’d known all my life… maybe close to the feeling. Anyway i just wanted to say good luck with the publisher-hunt; and do you write poetry as well?

  2. I’m a Word-Press noob/newb/newbie and tend to browse blogs at odd hours of the day and night. Most of what I read makes me click-out in a hurry. Except this time. I really like your ‘About Me’ page. The first paragraph really grabbed my attention, but it was your closing paragraph that made emotions burst forth. Someone else who understands what it’s like to create change in a fast-moving river fraught with deadly rocks, swimming upstream. I wish you all the best of luck in your publishing dreams.

    Ciao!

  3. @mand, Thanks for the wishes of luck toward publishing. Your description of the trees in England (how very sad!) is very akin to what a hurricane is like. After hurricane Rita three years ago, so many trees came down that I actually couldn’t find my way around anymore. It changed the entire *feeling* that east Texas has had for my entire life. It now has this disturbing openness that I’m accustomed to in the desert, but not in my hometown.

Oh, and no, I don’t write poetry. Or at least, not good poetry. It’s way too hard. I stick to short stories and novels. 🙂 I have lots of friends who are poets though.

  4. @caffempath Thanks! I’m glad to meet another boat-rocker out there in the wild wild internet. I wish you the best with your dreams of creating change. I’ll check out your blog some time when it isn’t 3AM. 🙂

  5. @caffempath: what’s your blog?

  7. Yay!

  8. I’m a WP newbie, just discovered the My Comments page and found you’d replied! All i can say about your poetry is… it takes a good writer to know when their writing isn’t good. ;0)

  9. ps
I wish we could ‘watch’ threads after contributing to them (as in LiveJournal).

  10. Hi again – thanks for taking the time to come to my blog to check it out, and thanks too for the glowing reviews! You get dark chocolate as your gift, hope you like that. Just so happens that I am returning to California at the end of the month (yay… another road trip) but not to the Oakland area. Sure would be awesome to be part of a real start-up cafe. Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had was in Australia. Speaking of Australia, I know a publisher there. Things that makes ya go hmmmm.

  11. Dark chocolate, mm, thanx. 80)

I’m ashamed (speaking as a Brit) to say the best fish n chips (Great British dish) i’ve ever had was in Oz!

    I don’t know a publisher there but i do know a published author there…

    What’s a start-up cafe?

  12. @ caffempath: Thanks for the dark chocolate. Maybe we should talk about this publisher 🙂

@ Mand: I don’t know much about fish and chips but there is a place around the corner from my house that sells some amazing fish and chips. I think caffempath is referring to my friend’s project to start a coffee shop when she writes about a “start-up cafe”.

When I was a kid, I had a book who’s premise was: “I’ve had a no-good, very bad day and I’m moving to Australia”. That describes my week. Maybe the three of us should take a trip down there, and I’ll meet your contacts and come back published. hahahaha j/k

  13. Great idea. 80)

  14. Hi..
Do you want to link Exchange ? with my blog

  15. Welcome friends! ,

  16. Clint,
Jim Woolley and I just returned from another trip to Dominica, and I dug out your entry from the hike to Boiling Lake. We both re-read it. What a great account. We both went to Boiling Lake again. 11 trips now for me.

    Tom Lacher

    • Dr. Lacher!

Thanks for getting in touch. Our trip to Dominica is one of the most special memories of my life. Of all the places I’ve been in the world, Dominica is enshrined in my heart and it is one of the few places I’ve visited that I’ve never ceased dreaming of returning to. Maybe we should do a Dominica Reunion tour? 😉

I’ll have to go re-read that account. Maybe I should post it on this blog. I have several of my Dominica pictures on the wall at home. They’ve been a fixture of my life for a long time. I’m really glad you guys are still taking a troupe of students down there every few years. It’s something I’ve never forgotten, and I imagine I’m not the only one.

Please give my best to Dr. Woolley!

      Best wishes,
      Clint
